Who is Jay in one sentence?

I’m just a Vietnamese international student who’s really into minimalist fashion, photography, and a genuinely good cup of coffee.

Where are you from, and how long have you been in Vancouver?

I was born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam, and I’ve been in Vancouver for about three years now. Long enough to romanticize the rain and call it home.

What’s one food or drink spot in the city you keep going back to?

For food, I always go back to Vietnamese spots like Nén Vietnamese Kitchen, Chén Vietnamese Kitchen + Bar, Tre Viet Cuisine, and B&D Authentic Vietnamese Food. They’re the closest to the flavours I grew up with back home.

What are three things we’d find you doing on a Saturday?

Dressing up like I have somewhere important to be (even if I don’t), café hopping with my camera, and wandering through downtown chasing light, shadows, and architecture.

What’s something you’re focused on or excited about in your life right now?

Right now, I’m focused on showing people that dressing well isn’t complicated; you can look intentional and put-together without overthinking it. I’m also building a community of people who genuinely love fashion and self-expression.

At the same time, I’m planning to travel across different cities in Vietnam to photograph the culture, landscapes, food, and everyday people, and show the world that Vietnam isn’t just a place you visit, it’s a place you experience.

Something in the city more people should know about?

I think more people should pay attention to Vancouver’s history and architecture, the older buildings, the small details downtown, the stories behind them.

And beyond that, I think we should be more aware of the people around us who need help. This city is beautiful, but real appreciation also means caring for the community, not just the aesthetics.

If you could share a message with everyone in Vancouver, what would you say?

Vancouver is more than just a city to constantly hustle in. Take one day for yourself, dress up, go to a café, talk to your friends or your partner, and slow down a bit. Life feels different when you actually let yourself experience it.
