Who is Sophie in one sentence?
I’m a young entrepreneur and creative who believes the best life is built around genuine connection, good health, and making the people around you a little happier.
Where are you from, and how long have you been in Vancouver?
I’m from New Westminster originally but have been in Kitsilano/Vancouver since 2019 when I moved back to BC. I went to university in Ontario and leaving made me appreciate the West Coast SO much more when I came back.
What’s one food or drink spot in the city you keep going back to?
Lanzhou Beef Noodle on West Broadway… a little hole in the wall, super affordable and the hand pulled noodles and soup always hits. Also satisfies my Chinese side.
What are three things we’d find you doing on a Saturday?
1) Running, probably along Jericho or Kits Beach - I just ran the First Half (got a PB!) and have another coming up soon which I’m running to support a friend (no PB goals).
2) Walking my dog(s) in Pacific Spirit Park - my fiancé and I are currently raising two service dogs in training through Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS). Pacific Spirit Park is the perfect place to bring them for off-duty playtime and pure canine joy.
3) In the summer, getting on the water paddleboarding, windsurfing, or wingfoiling through my business Windsure Adventure Watersports (at Jericho Beach).
WOW I sound so classic Kitsilano! Lol!
What’s something you’re focused on or excited about in your life right now?
Opening Tality Wellness Kitsilano! It’s a social sauna & cold plunge space, with a couple existing locations in Metro Vancouver, and I’m opening the Kitsilano location. I’ve been working on this for over two years now and with the build-out in progress, it’s SO COOL to see the vision coming to life. Hoping to be open late Spring, but who knows?!
I’m also getting married at the end of August so that’s pretty darn exciting!
Someone or something in the city more people should know about?
Until the end of March, I’m running Seaside Sauna Sessions, a wood-fired sauna & ocean dip pop-up at Jericho Beach, a collaboration between Tality Kitsilano, Windsure Adventure Watersports, and the Finnish Sauna! Shameless plug for sure, but my friend did genuinely (unprompted) say “this is the coolest thing in Vancouver that I’ve done for a while.” What a compliment!
If you could share a message with everyone in Vancouver, what would you say?
Smile at people who you pass walking down the street. Who knows what will happen? At minimum we’ll reduce our reputation as an unfriendly city.
Follow along with Sophie on Instagram, or follow Tality Kitsilano for updates on the grand opening this spring.
